Camping at Murrnong

Our diverse 20 acre farm is perfect for a weekend camping getaway or road trip rest spot for anyone with off-grid and self reliant interests. There are a variety of spaces across the farm for small and large groups, including private nooks at the end of the olive grove and large vehicle parking by the orchard. On the edge of a quiet country town, Murrnong is a sanctuary to enjoy a beautiful yet productive landscape beneath a starlit sky.

Enrich the farm stay experience by requesting a farm tour or guided meeting of the animals. Farm produce, including seasonal fruit and preserves, are available to purchase.

Spaces

Large vehicle parking: closest to the farm centre, large vehicles can be easily parked between stone pine trees, across the track from the citrus plantings in the orchard. This area has a powered option, and can also be used for tent camping when no other bookings are made.

Orchard edge: Camping without vehicles only, this space includes the transition from orchard to native forest. Spaces for large and small tents available, between silver wattle, stone fruit and shady pecan trees.

Forest north: Among towering eucalyptus plantings, forest north is also vehicle free camping. The nearby goat yard and dam makes this space a great location for watching the daily farm activity.

Forest south: At the back of the native forest, this space is a private sanctuary beside silver wattle and within earshot of frogs croaking in the little dam. Here, you could easily imagine you were camped in a national park, if not for an occasional glimpse of sheep across the creek on the properties border.

Pines and carobs: At the far corner of the farm are rows of stone pine, carob trees and native bunya pines. This space is lush and secluded, and a short walk up the dam bank will put you in prime position to watch magnificent sunsets. Beside the pines/carobs is a grove of young oak trees, providing a calming shaded space in summer.

Olive grove: Follow the track past rows of olives, and space opens up between the grove and the casurina shelter belt. Cars and small vehicles can be parked alongside camping in this space, or tents can be tucked between eucalypt and thick casurina in the plantings that border the south of the olive grove.

Camping details

We ask that campers respect the property as a functional farm, and keep a positive impact on the land. Food scraps can be added to our compost, but land fill and recycling to be taken when leaving. Free fire wood can be collected around the farm. We offer our rainwater, and hope visitors use it wisely. Powered sites are available to use for smaller appliances and charging devices, but not heating and cooling (majority of our power is solar). Dogs are welcome, under close supervision and kept away from farm animals. Visitors can help us with animal care, but please don’t feed them without us. We observe total fire ban rules and camp fires should be managed with usual fire safety – don’t leave unattended
